Betty Moved to Lewisporte in 1981 with her husband Ross and family. She was employed by the Central Newfound Regional College as a Business Education Instructor at Lewisporte and Grand Falls-Windsor and later as Supervisor of Contract Services in Lewisporte and Gander. Betty was involved in many volunteer positions – Gateway Developers Inc., Calypso Foundation, Lewisporte School Council, Chairperson CBDC, and Gander and Lewisporte Open Learning Center. From 1989 – 1997, she was a Councillor, Deputy Mayor and Mayor. Presently retired, Betty was elected Mayor in 2017 and is:
